DEBUT Echolink

Today I did the first QSO of Echolink. http://www.echolink.org/

I did find a node station in my town. The node station is not far from my home QTH. It is easy to access directly on 2m band FM from my shack. So I did try the Echolink QSO. (I don't install yet a EchoLink Software for PC.)

Today I could work with a station located over moutains of 1200m high from my QTH. It is normaly impossible to work with such a station on V/UHF band from my QTH. With the system of Echolink, it would be able to work with any stations all over Japan and World. I felt that it is the another new pleasure of Ham Radio. I would like to learn more about the Echolink System and to use well for new type QSOs with many radio stations.

It was for it that I did buy a new rig with which I could use a tone of 100Hz for contact to the near node station from my shack. (Ant then, I could not get already option units of TONE for my rigs, IC-275 and IC-706MkII. But my new rig IC-7000, it is a very intersting radio, too. It will be interesting to manipulate for all things, I think. )

Antenna Tuner

It was last year that an OM gave me his rig Yaesu FT-107 and other 107 devices for the first anniversary of my Ham Radio. And last week, I did change coaxial cables of my shack using the Antenna Tuner FC-107 which had a selector of 3 coaxial cable lines and 1 wire cable.

I am using 3 mobile whip antennas in my home QTH : 2 antennas on a south facing veranda and 1 antenna on a north facing veranda. I did take these all 3 coaxial cable into this antenna tuner FC-107. And I did put a "HF Low Path Filter" between the antenna tuner and my rig IC-703 (IC-7000).

These mobile antennas (Diamond HF17FX, HF40FX etc), it is very easy to adjust for a good VSWR. Because it is only to change the antenna length for the adjustment moving the thin element of the Diamond mobile antenna. It means that it is not necessary a antenna tuner. Yes, that is why it has not been necessary a antenna tuner for my shack.

But I did have to adjust a little my antennas all the time when it rained and when I worked at a　edge of band. It will become to manage easily in that case using the antenna tuner, I think. I have no need anymore to go out from my shack for adjustments of antennas, HI.


And in this system, it is every where at 50 ohm of coaxial cable.　Particularly against a Interference: PC / TV / Telephone etc , it is always very good for a device "Low Path Filter" working.

And this Antenna Tuner FC-107 has a power meter. It is useful to usual working, too. Hi.

New Rig IC-7000M

New Rig IC-7000"M" has come to my shack today!

I have already in my home QTH, IC-275(10W), IC-375(10W) and IC-703(10W) for VHF, UHF and 50MHz + HF. And IC-706MkII50W is installed in my mobile station. This IC-7000M will work well in the our bottom condition, I think. ( and we have ususally a jamming noise called Dragon in East Asia)

But in this bottom condition, it is very intereting for me to use 10W---50W, running power to spare corresponding to our various conditions with this IC-7000M. This rig will make it possible to flexible operations in my home QTH, I think. And I believe that it will become more intersting to manage my 10W Rigs for QSOs at my shack and other QTH. The 50W Rig IC-7000M will show me soon about that.

P.S.　(50W Maximum power for my third class license of JAPAN. And It is 70cm, 2m, 6m, 12m, 15m, 17m, 40m, 80m and 160m that I am able to use with my third license. It is necessary the second classe license for using 20m and 30m band. )

Listening DX

I have received the signal of CQDX from Moldova and Slovenia at my Home QTH with a mobile mono-band antenna, Comet HR7 (2.13m). It was at 06:30 JST (21:30 UTC).

And I could receive the signal that came from Tasmania, too. It was very strong signal of VK7AC station.

I could not make QSO with these DX stations. Because it is too difficult to make QSO with these long distance station with my mono stick mobile antenna on the veranda of my QTH. But I am enough happy for now to find and catch the signals comming from very very far radio stations. I think that my mobile antenna on veranda works very well. HI. And I will prepare an another antenna for DX with which I will send my call sign to these DX stations far from Japan.

QRA varié

QRA of Q-code, it means originally "What is the name of your station?". It is same as a original meaning in Japan, too. But this Q-code QRA is used variousely.....

I have recently known a meaning of Q-code QRA in the conversation with My friend OM, french station F5**. He did tell me that "My Home QTH" was usually saied like "Mon QRA" in French.

QRA est un code, qui signifie: « Quel est le nom de votre station ? » selon le code Q . En usage radioamateur, il équivaut à « maison ».

I did find about QRA in Wikipeida, too. QRA is used as a meaning of Home or House in French radio Hams. So after that I could understand a comment in French like this : Paul came to my QRA yesterday.

It was a very interesting discover for me. Because I heard on the air many Japanese Hams use this Q-code "QRA" as "My name".

Some Japanese Hams avoid intentionally this usage of QRA. I, too. I am careful to say in my QSO with a quite usual speaking "my name is nash". But it is known commonly for Japanese Ham that QRA is the operator name of a radio station. You can hear this QRA using of Japanese Radio stations on the air! HI HI.

JARL QSL Bureau

The member of JARL, the Japan Amateur Radio League, we exchange our QSL card each other by the "JARL QSL Bureau". But we recceive once two month the QSL cards from the JARL QSL Bureau. It takes a lot of time to have the cards even if comming from domestic radio stations. So it is usual that a card of QSO in spring arrive in the season of ... cold winter! HI.

But it is useful for many stations of foreign countries to send a card to a JA station. Because it will be done with one adress of JARL QSL Bureau :

CQDX

I received the signals CQDX on 40m band from Russian stations at my home QTH. We had not much QRM generally called "Dragon Jamming" of HF bands tonight, too. So I went out from my shack tonight at 01:30 AM! HI.


I drove my car to the place facing the direction of North-West where was out of city noises and was the sea side of "setonaikai" sea. There was not much QRM and pretty strong some signals from Russia. It was quite different from the condition of my home QTH.

I did find the signal from a station of UA9***, RW6**, UA9**, UZ7* and DA3**, for example. And I heard that the station RW6** was making QSO with a station of 2E0***. I could not receive the signal of 2E0***, but RW6** station was working easyly 2E0*** station!

I was listening that QSO in my car with IC-706 50W and a mobile mono-band whip antenna. I thought that it was impossible to receive well the signal from England, but it would be possible to work them at some future time. Because I could hear a QSO beteween West-Russia and England, and I could also hear direct CQDX from the DA3** station, Germany!

And finally I could not make QSO with them tonight. I tried to call for a very strong signal of CQ station with my rig IC-706MkII 50W, but it seemed that he did not hear nothing from me, he had no reaction on my call from Japan and he continued to call "CQ contest".

But I have gained new experience about HF DX tonight. The waves, it is very interesting!

Midnight no Dragon

Tonight I could receive the signal comming from Moldova on 40m band in my home QTH. There is not much QRM of Dragon specially tonight. (Only a baby of Dragon family...) Some JA stations call to the CQ of Moldova ER4** station who speak well a little of Japanese. The signal CQ has a "5" of readability, but as signal strenghth "5--9" with a huge QSB. But anyway it is a very good signal! I have not heard recently a signal like that in Japan except a monster signal of Dragon.


Moldova, it is for north-west from my home QTH of Japan, about 8200km far. I was able to receive the signal with my mobile antenna "Comet HR7 2.13m" facing North of the home QTH. But there is only the rig IC-703 of 10W at my home QTH. ( I have also another rig IC-706MkII 50w, but it is already installed in my car.) I wish I had one more rig of 50W at my home shack....hi hi.

Thank you for your visit on my Blog “Call sign of JAPAN”. I will newly describe more in detail about my antennas on the verandas with some sketches for answer your comment, Francisco.

First of all, I answer to your questions,

[ do you use some kind of ground wire ? ]

I use no grand wires for my HF antennas for a mobile station fixed on verandas of my home QTH. Because I have has luckily a good ground (earth) in this appartement of my QTH. It is a “Ferro-concrete building” and it has on berandas “Handrail of Iron”. So as a result, all the appartement becomes a grand gound and my antennas can get a good ground (earth) immediately when I fix it on the handrail of the veranda. This is the reason of no using grand wires at my QTH. It was really lucky for me to use my whip antennas on my verandas.

[ And about the noise from elevator? ] etc
Yes, Francisco. I have the same problem about the noise coming from around the appartement. I have not dealt yet with these noise problems for now. It is difficult to deal well with them, Fransisco, me, too.

[ do you use some filter for this? ]
I have used filters on the coaxial cable of antennas, yes. But it is for the interference of TV, telephone or other audio devices in the room (of my QTH and neighbors of this appartement.) One of Low Pass Filter is for 30MHz and under frequency of HF band, the other is for 50MHz.

[... about your antennas for 80 meters and down]

I am using in my home QTH these antennas, 80m / 40m / (20m) / 16m / 15m / 10m / 6m. I don’t have yet a 160m antenna.

This is a close up picture of my Antenna Base. You see that I have connected directly with a coaxial cable cutted in short the antenna base and the iron handrail of veranda. It is not always necessary with using this iron attachment, I think. But I did like that for the good earth ground of the HF mobile antenna.

This is a picture of the VSWR on my 7MHz antenna facing north of my home QTH using the analyzer "BR-210 Kuranishi Standing Wave Analyzer". I can work well with this "Veranda Antenna" between 7.030MHz-----7.090MHz. For CW, it is necessary a little adjstement of the element of this mobile antenna. Because it is the frequency 7.000MHz----7.030MHz for CW in the band plan of Japan.

Dragon Jamming

The huge noise have bothered since a few years in East Asia. This evening, I could not hear all the band of 40m. (7MHz 7.000-7.100MHz in Japan). This noise have been called generally "Drqgon Jamming" or "Drqgon Jammer" that nobody has known ever exactly comming from where. (But you will be able to read some documents about the sending place of the noise in some reports on the Internet, "Chinese OTH-rader on 7MHz", for example.)

New Year QSO Party 2008

Yesterday, 2　wednesday january 2008, I did work on "New Year QSO Party 2008" of JARL ( The Japan Amateur Radio League) from my mobile station. I go out from my home QTH to a small mountain in my city. You can see around from there very nice scene of the sea called "Setonaikai" and many islands. This mobile station's QTH was in Area no.4. You can see Area no.5 over "Setonaikai" sea. I did make some QSOs with my friend station of no.5 from there, in my mobile station watching the bleu sky and sun's shinig. ( Call signs of Area no.5 in JAPAN, it is for example JJ5DOL with who I got my third classe license of Radio Amateur last year.)

I tried the band 430MHz at this time for making QSO over the sea, and it was very intersting for me to get call backs from many directions to my CQ call. There was only the sea, so it made have us very good and clear radio sounds, it was very confortable situation!! hi.

And later afternoon, I tried on the other hand the HF bands: 21MHz and 7MHz. I could get on 21MHz band some signals which came from over the sea!!! Yes, over the Pacific Ocean, it came from New Zealand. I could recognize this mobile station's locations was very nice for HF DX. I would like to back there to try HF DX sometimes from this QTH of mobile station. Nash JN4VWH

Debut CQ100

I have had my first QSO on CQ100 tonight. I had known about this software Radio from my friend Simon. So I did the registration of CQ100 last night, I could use this Radio tonight and I could have my first QSO with this programme, too. And I thank you OM, JA3QUU for our interesting and nice QSO.

I use this microphone for PC that was a part of "Malti-Media Kit" I got for my Dos PC about 12 years ago. But this mic worked well at the fisrt QSO of CQ100 last night. I could have a report of my voice from OM radio station, hi.

For a mobile station

I got some option parts of Icom 706 MkII today.
OPC-581 Separate Cable and MB-63 Mounting Bracket for IC-706MkII. I will install my rig IC-706MkII in my car with these Icom parts on the front panel to touche easier from the driving seat.

It will be not a difficult to install it, I think. Because it is only the front panel of IC-706MkII that I have to do for the installation excepting the interference...... (^-^;)

It is a easy installation.... (^-^)　Hi.



I did finish to install the Front-Panel of my Rig IC-706MKII like this picture, and I have to arrange the "Body" of IC-706, separate cable from IC-706 to the Front-Panel and EXT speaker at the next time.

Message en Français

J'ai reçu hier un E-mail venant d'un radio amateur en France ( Merci beaucoup monsieur ). Je suis très heureux d'avoir un message comme ça.

Il est difficile pour moi ou pour mon systeme de radio d'avoir le contact avec des stations des pays très loin du Japon, celles europeens par example. Mais mon blog peut réaliser cela plus facilement, c'est chouette, je pense.

I received yesterday a E-mail of a french radio station (Thank you very much, monsieur). I am very happy to have a message like this.

It is so difficult for me (for my radio system) to have the contact with stations of very far countries, european for example. But my blog makes it more easier, it is great, I think.

I write about it here, in this day very very happy day.

HF Mobile Station

I did set newly in my car an another HF rig " IC-706MkII 50w" , with which I will be able to work from my mobile station in HF bands and VHF bands : 19MHz - 28MHz 50W + 50MHz 20W+ 144MHz 20W. I installed already in my car a rig for 430MHz all mode, Kenwood TR-851 10W. It was only in 430MHz band that I did receive and make some QSOs from the mobile station. But now it will be able to do it in all Amateur Radio Bands. It makes me happy　(^-^)!

I have finally three mobile antenna bases on the car; one small magnet type antenna　for V/UHF and two antenna bases for mobile mono-stick antenna, on the bonnet and on the rear roof of my car.　

I usually use the small V/UHF antenna for TR-851 430MHz band, and the other 2 antenna bases for mobile mono-band antennas : 3.5/7/18/21/28/50/144.

When I use the mobile rig for "watch" it means only receiving, I use the battery of my car's for the working Rig. When I make a lot of QSOs it means that it is necessary a lot of power to transmit waves, I use the another prepared battery from my car's. ( It will be possible to make a short QSO with my car's battery, I think.)

My rig IC-706MkII in my car, it is.... on the seat side now. I am going to install well my rig in the car somewhere for seeing and touching from the driver's seat.

I was asked about Ham Shop of Fukuoka City by "BVU who would be there. Fukuoka City is not near from My home QTH, so I don't know well about it. But I dit send some informations to you "BVU" station! Have a good days in Fukuoka! 73 from JN4VWH Nash.

Another Contact

Tonight I am very happy. Because I did have a contact with 2E0HTS English Radio Station.... on a band of..."Windows Live Messenger" at Internet. It was the first contact for us, and we have done very very well.

(We tried to call each other on 18 MHz band and 7 MHz band at the first. But tonight, the HF condition in Japan, it was very noisy to make a QSO. )

And I could hear that the 2E0HTS station worked on 14MHz, 7MHz and 3.5MHz bands.It was very good condition in Europe. He made QSOs with many countries in a half hour ! And I too ! It means.. I could send my message to 2E0HTS station by Windows Messenger at first and then he sent my message to the QSO station. It was my first and great experience! I thank 2EOHTS very much, my friend Simon.
( I cannot write very well about this my feeling of a contact with my friend tonight "in English" !!! Maybe it is not easy even if in Japanese, my native language.)

New mobile antenna BASE

I have put a new mobile antenna base on the roof of my car with a small hole (^-^;). I know it is no good for the car. I will keep this car using to the end, and I will have to repaire something around this mobile antenna mount. But anyway this antenna mount is very useful, I think.

And It goes very well the adjustment of HF mobile whip antennas with Antenna Analyzer checking. It is lucky!

I did it like this....

I will move to working for "DX" in this mobile station with my Rig IC-706MKII(50W). I hope that everything goes well.... (^-^). Nash

I can not see the sky from my QTH veranda for south, but I can see a lot of sky at the north of my home QTH. So I did put my antenna- base in my home QTH for the north direction. Over Japan Sea and Russia, I may receive and send waves from my mobile mono-band HF antennas 7MHz ,18MHz or 21MHz, I hope so.
